Punjab Contender Singh to Face Turkish Champion

SINGH VS. YUKSEL • DEC. 2, 2023

PICKERING — The Co-Main Event for United Boxing Promotions’ December 2nd event is finalized, as reigning IBO Asia Pacific Super Welterweight Champion Sukhdeep ‘Chakria’ Singh will lock horns with reigning Turkish and WBC Asia Silver Champion Yaser Yuksel.

Singh (16-0, 6 KO), undefeated and the pound-for-pound number one Punjab fighter in the world, returns to the ring on the heels of a shutout win over Luis Vidales in September. Yuksel (15-6-1, 5 KO) enters off a two-belt championship victory over Burak Akkus in Istanbul.

Main Event-calibre in its own right, Singh vs. Yuksel will serve as the Co-Feature on United’s stacked fight card to finish the 2023 calendar year.

For Singh, the goal is clear: Nothing less than an emphatic knockout will suffice in his quest to climb the world rankings.

Bolstered by a pair of strong wins in 2023, Yuksel will aim to prove that he belongs on the world stage after suffering an early stoppage defeat in his first trip to Canadian soil last November.

Quote Sheet: Singh-Yuksel

“I carry my people everywhere I go, it’s never a burden or pressure. They have me, like I have them. Whether it’s in private moments or public spaces…we do the work to stay as one.” – Singh on Punjab roots.

“I’m the same fighter as when I first fought in Canada, but my advantage this time is that my mind is awake. I want to enjoy it, have fun and continue writing my totally extraordinary story!” – Yuksel on his return to Canada.

“The one thing I know about Yuksel is he comes from a proud fighting tradition like I do, but there’s no room for two once we’re in that ring. Spirits will be high that night. When my drums come knocking on Dec. 2nd, they’ll come to watch the kid dance.” – Singh on fight night emotions.

“The game plan? Fighting and having fun. To rise above myself, and get a standing ovation for my performance at the end.” – Yuksel’s objective.

Fight Notes

The fight will be Singh’s third at the Pickering Casino Resort, following shutout wins over Victor Ionascu (Jan. 28) and Vidales (Sep. 9) earlier this year…Yuksel has won four of his last five fights, including a quality win over the 17-3 Marco Martini late last year…This will be Singh’s first fight against a Turkish opponent…After his first 19 fights were in Germany, Yuksel has recently fought in Canada and Turkey (twice).
