SANTA MARTA — Featherweight prospect Michael Cabato continued his upward trajectory on Wednesday in Colombia, sending game local fighter Ricardo Julio to the canvas, down and out in the opening round.
Cabato’s record moved to 4-0-1 (2 KO) with the victory, and the Filipino-Canadian delivered on his pre-fight knockout promise with a devastating left hook less than two minutes into the fight.
The Toronto product is clear in what he wants next: A correction of the one blemish on his record, a controversial April draw with Mexico’s Jorge Diaz.
“I’m excited to fight back at home,” said Cabato following the win in Colombia. “I want that rematch with Diaz, and I’m excited to see where my career goes in the next year.”
