Ranked Contenders Collide: Haghighat-Joo vs. Gaona

PICKERING — Undefeated prospect Sara Haghighat-Joo will face ranked contender Esmeralda Gaona in a world-class super flyweight clash October 21st at the Pickering Casino Resort, where the two will meet in an eight-round contest presented by Tyler Buxton’s United Boxing Promotions.

Both Haghighat-Joo (WBA No. 9, IBF No. 10) and Gaona (WBO No. 5) are on the international radar, and a win could propel either into the World Title conversation.

“I’m ready to fight anyone in the top five, I want number one (and) think I should be ranked top five right now,” said Haghighat-Joo, who has proven popular in addition to talented since her professional debut last November. “The fan support has been incredible. It doesn’t matter where the fight is, everyone is following Team Sara and I’m so grateful.”

While younger, faster and higher-ranked than Haghighat-Joo’s first two opponents — Nayeli Verde and former WBA World Title Challenger Mayela Perez — Gaona will present a similar style of opponent.

“She is a typical Mexican fighter who will come forward, not many jabs or straight punches,” previewed Haghighat-Joo. “What helps me in the pro game is the amateur background I have — I’ve been in with many different styles, and have the skills and technique to put it together against anyone.”

The charismatic Haghighat-Joo, who trains out of West End Athletic Club, is excited to bring her growing legion of fans to the Pickering Casino Resort.

“I’m lucky to have this support behind me, everyone is excited for the new Casino look (and) a lot of my fans are getting hotels for the night,” said Haghighat-Joo. “They’re excited to see me in action, everyone’s been asking since February when the next fight is — and I can’t wait to put on a show.”

United Boxing Promotions presents WBA #9- and IBF #10-ranked Sara Haghighat-Joo (2-0) against WBO #5-ranked Esmeralda ‘La Pelusa’ Gaona (8-4-2) in an eight-round super flyweight contest on October 21st at the Pickering Casino Resort. Tickets are available now at unitedpromotions.ca.
