OCT. 19: SMITHER-ALEKOZAI CANADIAN TITLE IN TORONTO

TORONTO — The Canadian Super Lightweight Championship between ‘Marvellous’ Mark Smither (12-1) and Helmand ‘Savage Prince’ Alekozai (14-0, 6 KO) headlines United Boxing Promotions’ Oct. 19th event at Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto.

“The Smither-Alekozai fight has generated so much buzz, it’s something Toronto fans have wanted for years and this is the platform it deserves,” said United president Tyler Buxton. “Both being Ontario guys, with a significant history in the amateur ranks — this is the kind of fight that can define a boxer’s legacy.”

Jamaican heavyweight sensation Ricardo ‘Big 12’ Brown (11-0, 11 KO) and undefeated Brampton super welterweight Joshua ‘HellRazor’ Frazer (10-0, 7 KO) will also put their zeroes on the line against to-be-announced opposition.

Korean lightweight Gisu ‘Terminator’ Lee (11-4, 4 KO) faces a step-up in competition against tough Mexican Alfredo ‘Duro’ Espino (6-2-1, 2 KO); Lee enters on an electrifying three-fight knockout streak, while Espino is a proven entity who has earned results as a road fighter before.

“This is a test for Gisu, Espino is a guy who’s fought in Canada and performed well in the past,” said Buxton. “Both guys have dreams of getting ranked, but only one is going to continue their upward trajectory on October 19th. Korea versus Mexico!”

Filipino-Canadian featherweight Michael ‘Machine Gun’ Cabato (5-0-1, 2 KO) will face veteran Mexican Jonatan Lecona Ramos in a six-round contest, while Mayron ‘Brazilian Bomber’ Zeferino (6-1, 2 KO) will make a much-anticipated return to the professional ring in a four-round fight against Jamaica’s Gregory Miller.

Tickets for United’s October 19th event, headlined by the Smither-Alekozai Canadian Championship, are available now via Ticketmaster. Limited VIP tables remain via [email protected].

‘Marvellous’ Mark Smither

The 31-year-old Barrie, Ont. product is jumping straight back into the fire following his first career loss to Billy Allington in their IBO International Championship fight back in March. The reigning Canadian Champion, Smither won the belt against Paul Ispas in February 2022 before successfully defending against Cody Kelly five months later.

Helmand ‘Savage Prince’ Alekozai

The 31-year-old Toronto product has changed his entire life entering this Canadian title shot, relocating to Allentown, Pa. for training camp at the Indio Boxing Gym. Oct. 19th will be Alekozai’s first fight in Canada since Feb. 2023, when he scored a majority decision over Cody Kelly; since then, the Savage Prince has rung up five wins — including four knockouts — internationally.
