All In: Zareian Ready for Gonzalez Fight in Toronto

Cruiserweight Zareian Embracing Boxing Journey

TORONTO — Towering cruiserweight Milad Zareian (1-0, 1 KO) returns to the ring on March 2, when he will face Mexico’s Edgar ‘Jaguar’ Gonzalez (1-2-1, 1 KO) at Casino Resort Toronto on the undercard of United Boxing Promotions’ Singh-Godoy, Smither-Allington championship double-header.

The Sunderland, Ont. resident is attacking professional boxing with the same full-commitment intensity that previously led him to success in soccer and business.

“I’m very excited for the opportunity to work with one of the dominant promoters in the country, and I’m taking full advantage of it — training hard and taking this very, very seriously,” said the 34-year-old Zareian, who intends to move quickly in the pro ranks. “I want to show the skills I’ve been working on in the gym, and studying a lot of older boxers like Klitschko I want to emulate their patience and relentless work rate.”

Zareian lit up the Pickering Casino Resort with a blistering first-round stoppage of Vicente Santiago in his October 21 debut — and believes fans can expect more of the same come March.

“My advantages are length, reach and power,” explained the rangy cruiserweight. “Just like my debut, fans can expect lots of power and destruction.”

One thing is certain: He is not alone on this new professional boxing journey, backed by a legion of friends, fellow residents of Sunderland and business acquaintances.

“The support I have is a testament to the type of person and athlete I am, I’ve never taken anything lightly,” reflected Zareian. “I was a professional soccer player, I did that full force, then when I took on this boxing journey everyone was skeptical of me doing it at such an age.

“But I’ve been so dedicated that my following now not only respects it but is really supporting it,” he continued. “Now that I’m in a small town, I’m going to keep growing the fan base and representing.”
