SEP. 20: CHAKRIA’S RETURN, AN INTERNATIONAL TITLE & LOCAL FLAIR

PICKERING — United Boxing Promotions is bringing international championship boxing to the Pickering Casino Resort September 20th.

The boxing world will descend on the Pickering Casino Resort on Friday, September 20th, when United Boxing Promotions presents a landmark night of professional boxing which will include the first International Championship in the history of Durham Region.

“This is the biggest fight night yet at the Pickering Casino Resort, featuring Chakria’s toughest test to date and an international title, along with three undefeated Durham Region fighters putting their zeroes on the line on the undercard,” said United president Tyler Buxton. “This is a can’t-miss event and a night where careers will change forever.”

Reigning IBF International Junior Middleweight Champion Sukhdeep ‘Chakria’ Singh (18-0, 8 KO / Ajax, Ont.) headlines the Main Event against former Polish and Baltic Champion Lukasz ‘Crazy Cat’ Maciec (29-7-1, 5 KO / Lublin, Pol.).

“Maciec is the most difficult opponent Sukhdeep has faced thus far in his career,” outlined Buxton. “He has won on the road against legitimate prospects in Finland and the United States, and has never been stopped in 37 pro fights — he will be a tough nut to crack.”

The Championship Co-Feature will see top contender Melinda’The Whip’ Watpool (6-0, 2 KO / WBA #1) tangle with Natasha ‘The Nightmare’ Spence (8-5-2, 6 KO) over 10 rounds for the WBA International Middleweight Championship.

Watpool-Spence II offers an incredible amount of local intrigue, with the added gravitas of the WBA International Middleweight Championship. Watpool, the number-one ranked contender in the world, is on the cusp of a major opportunity while Spence — who dropped Shadasia Green in a narrow decision loss in Tampa this summer —  is set on rocking the boat.

“This is the most anticipated female rematch in Canadian history,” explained Buxton. “Melinda is number-one in the world, and Natasha has a score to settle after their short-notice fight last December.

“The world will be watching — and waiting to call the winner.”

The undercard will feature a trio of undefeated Durham Region fighters, with cruiserweight Milad Zareian (2-0, 2 KO), welterweight Kyle ‘Caveman’ McLaughlin (4-0, 3 KO) and light flyweight Evan ‘Kid Chrome’ Gillard (6-0-1, 1 KO) all set to defend home turf.

Sukhdeep ‘Chakria’ Singh

The 31-year-old Punjab star has stopped three of his last four opponents, including a fourth-round demolition of Gino Godoy in his most recent outing, and is now the No. 15-ranked contender in the world by the IBF. Trained by Ryan Grant, Singh will be headlining at the Pickering Casino Resort for the third time — and looking to become the first man to stop Maciec.

Lukasz ‘Crazy Cat’ Maciec

The 35-year-old Pole enters off a confident eight-round win over Pablo Sosa in May. His signature wins include a fifth-round knockout of undefeated Finnish prospect Jussi Koivula in Tampere and a unanimous decision over Jeremy Ramos at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The Crazy Cat comes to Canada with every intention of engineering another win on the road.
